Your new role
As a Senior Database Administrator, you will take on a pivotal position within the team, ensuring the stability, performance and evolution of database environments. You will act as a technical reference point, guiding less experienced colleagues while contributing to strategic decisions and operational excellence. Your role will involve working closely with internal stakeholders to enhance systems, improve processes and maintain high service standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage and enhance database environments across multiple technologies
- Act as a technical lead when required, ensuring continuity and decision-making
- Support and coach junior team members, sharing knowledge and best practices
- Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline operational processes
- Collaborate with service leads to plan, monitor and report on activities
- Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure system availability
- Produce and maintain clear technical documentation
- Analyse incidents and implement effective, long-term solutions
What you'll need to succeed
- Strong experience working with relational database systems (such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL)
- Exposure to cloud environments, ideally within Azure and/or AWS
- Solid scripting and automation skills (e.g. SQL, Bash, Python or PowerShell)
- Proven ability to guide and mentor other technical professionals
- Confidence in communicating with different stakeholders and making informed decisions
- Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Experience producing structured technical documentation
- Familiarity with ETL tools (such as GoldenGate or SSIS)
- Relevant database or cloud certifications
