Your new company
You will be joining a multinational transport and logistics group that manages end-to-end supply chain solutions on a global scale, with a strong international footprint (a network of thousands of facilities, operations across dozens of countries, and a substantial global workforce). The organisation has its roots in Northern Europe and operates through multiple service lines (including road, air and sea freight, as well as contract logistics), supporting clients across a wide range of industries while maintaining a clear ambition for growth and operational efficiency.
Your new role
As a Senior SAP Basis Specialist, you will take ownership of the technical backbone that keeps a complex SAP estate stable, secure and performing. You will act as a senior escalation point, shaping how Basis services are delivered across both on-premise S/4HANA and private cloud environments, while coordinating technical activities with an external hosting provider. A strong part of the role is proactive performance management (SAP and connected components), plus hands-on configuration across authorisations, integrations and system operations in a multi-time-zone warehouse context.
Responsibilities
- Lead Basis contributions across several parallel initiatives, translating project needs into practical technical designs and outcomes.
- Run and improve daily operational routines for a sizeable productive landscape, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.
- Drive and govern change execution with the hosting partner, ensuring alignment with infrastructure and security stakeholders.
- Support a multi-client S/4HANA setup used by warehouses operating across different time zones, ensuring consistency and availability.
- Handle incidents and problem investigations using Jira, with a mindset focused on root cause and long-term fixes.
- Configure and maintain integrations for both modern and classic connectivity patterns (for example APIs/SAP Gateway as well as RFC/FTP style exchanges).
- Own technical setup for printing (SAP and Windows-based print servers) and related operational stability.
- Use SAP Solution Manager capabilities for monitoring and EarlyWatch-style analysis to identify risks and performance opportunities.
- Manage data archiving configuration and oversee recurring archiving execution quality against the agreed concept.
- Contribute to feasibility checks and effort/cost estimates to support decision-making on upcoming changes.
- Provide go-live coverage and senior (3rd line) production support after project transitions.
- Enable testing readiness (integration/UAT), including system load and performance reporting, and maintain clear technical documentation.
What you will need to succeed
- 5+ years of hands-on SAP Basis experience in complex, business-critical landscapes (certification is valued).
- Strong understanding of SAP technical building blocks (kernel, core Basis services, interfaces and operational processes).
- Proven ability to assess and qualify technical change requests in a Basis context, balancing risk, effort and impact.
- Solid database exposure across SAP HANA and Oracle, plus practical work with S/4HANA environments.
- Demonstrated skills in performance tuning and cross-layer analysis (SAP plus connected/network components).
- Good command of system security topics (secure connectivity, logon protection, patching and SAP Notes/hot fixes).
- Experience with system integrations (for example RFC, FTP, APIs, SAP Gateway) and the operational governance around them.
- Collaborative communication style and confidence operating in international, agile ways of working.
- English at C1 level (written and spoken); German is beneficial.
- Advantageous: SAP Solution Manager familiarity, SAP Basis certification, and technical understanding of SAP EWM contexts.
What you will get in return
You’ll be able to join a fast-paced environment and a growing team with a great working spirit in a leading company in its sector. You will also get exposure to a wide variety of business topics and integrate into a world-class company with creative and innovative thinking.
- Permanent contract, with salary paid across 14 instalments per year.
- Private medical care.
- English language courses (financially supported/co-financed).
- Meal allowance.
- 35 hours per week, plus a hybrid and flexible model (3 days per week in the office).
- Structured onboarding, including a buddy programme, and an office location with strong public transport access.
