In this role, you will help build and evolve large-scale backend platforms responsible for processing significant volumes of data, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security across complex distributed environments. Working alongside engineers, architects, and product stakeholders, you will play a key role in delivering cloud-native solutions that support cutting-edge technologies at the intersection of IoT, telecommunications, and software platforms.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance backend platforms designed to support large-scale, data-intensive workloads.
• Design technical solutions that meet demanding requirements around scalability, availability, security, performance, and resilience.
• Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle, from solution design and technical analysis through implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Build and maintain cloud-based microservices and distributed applications.
• Develop event-driven solutions and data processing capabilities using modern streaming technologies.
• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and architecture teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Drive software quality through Test-Driven Development (TDD) and engineering best practices.
• Contribute to CI/CD processes and continuous delivery initiatives.
• Support integrations across multiple systems and services within the technology ecosystem.
• Monitor and maintain production environments, ensuring system stability and operational excellence.
• Provide technical input into architecture, design decisions, and platform evolution.

Required Skills

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience within production environments.
• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience working with Apache Flink and/or Apache Spark in data processing environments.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or comparable event streaming and messaging technologies.
• Proven background in developing and operating microservices-based applications in cloud environments.
• Experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of designing and delivering complex, large-scale backend systems.
• Experience working across the full software development lifecycle.
• Solid knowledge of Test-Driven Development (TDD) methodologies.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Self-motivated mindset with strong learning capabilities and interpersonal skills.
• Experience using agentic development tools and workflows.
• Professional English proficiency (minimum B2 level).
• Based in Portugal.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Apache Iceberg and lakehouse technologies.
• Previous exposure to IoT, telecommunications, or semiconductor-related environments.
• Experience working with multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Knowledge of multi-cloud architectures and deployment strategies.
