The difference you will make
As our next Legal & Compliance Director, you'll play a pivotal role in protecting and shaping Bauer Media Audio Portugal's future. You'll lead our legal strategy, ensure regulatory compliance, and serve as a trusted adviser to the CEO and wider business. This role offers a rare opportunity to step directly into meaningful influence - supporting ongoing regulatory processes, helping guide new media legislation discussions with government stakeholders, and shaping our legal roadmap at a critical moment of transformation.
Your role
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Leading our legal, compliance, and data protection strategy.
- Acting as the primary point of contact with Portuguese media regulators and official bodies.
- Supporting copyright and music rights negotiations.
- Advising the CEO and senior stakeholders on regulatory and legal risk.
- Overseeing legal documentation across departments (contracts, advertising, licensing, real estate, and more).
- Ensuring Group compliance and data protection policies are effectively implemented locally.
- Monitoring Portuguese and European legal and regulatory developments.
- Representing Bauer Media Audio Portugal in public institutions, regulatory forums, and corporate events.
- Assessing team structure, workflows, and external legal partners during a transition period.
The skills you will bring
Required
- Law degree (Portuguese Law).
- Fluent Portuguese and English.
- Strong regulatory and compliance expertise.
- Experience interacting with regulators and official bodies.
- 7-8 years' experience in similar roles within medium to large organisations.
- Strategic mindset with the confidence to challenge thinking.
- Collaborative, transparent working style with excellent communication skills.
Desired
- Experience in the media or communications sector.
- Exposure to copyright and music rights negotiations.
- Experience supporting public affairs or government relations.
Working pattern / Location
Hybrid role based in Lisbon, with four days per week onsite. Candidates should live within reasonable commuting distance.
