International Sales Manager
Medical Cannabis Industry
Location: Near Lisbon, 1-2 days a week in the office required

Our client is a Portuguese medical cannabis company, focused on cultivation, processing, extraction, and research and development. They produce Pharmaceutical Medical Cannabis in Lisbon, and export it to Europe, with an initial focus on the UK and Germany. With their innovative products and processes, they aim to integrate sustainability across their entire value chain to deliver quality-based, healthy, and green outcomes while positively impacting and improving the lives of patients.
They are a young, dynamic, and forward-looking company set to disrupt the medical cannabis space in Europe. Having raised over €20 million, with a high-tech indoor facility near Lisbon, they are now ready to start commercializing their offering and build a brand in the market. To help them on this journey, they are looking for an International Sales Manager.
About the Role
The International Sales Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing sales and business development strategies for the company's medical cannabis products in the European market. This individual will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities and building relationships with key stakeholders, including Medical Cannabis Pharmaceutical wholesalers and distributors in the target EU countries. The International Sales Manager will also be responsible for developing and building pipelines in target markets, whilst managing their current customer relationships. The company was founded over 5 years ago and has 15 employees. You would be reporting into the CEO.
Responsibilities
- Co-develop and implement a sales and marketing strategy for the company's medical cannabis products in the European market.
- Identify new business opportunities and build relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, hospitals, pharmacies, and wholesalers & distributors.
- Develop business plans for the company's new strategic areas and products.
- Develop and execute marketing campaigns to promote the company's products.
- Analyze market data to inform sales and marketing efforts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality and R&D, to ensure successful product launches and ongoing product promotion.
- Manage the budget for sales and marketing activities and track performance against targets.
- Create educational materials for stakeholders (e.g., training materials for healthcare professionals or distributors).
- Be present at the most relevant medical cannabis tradeshows and events in Europe, analyzing the need to have an own booth.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and market developments, and adapt the sales and marketing strategy accordingly.
Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in Sales and Business Development, from either the Medical Cannabis Industry / Pharmaceutical Industry / FMCG Industry / CBD or Supplements / Retail based product
- Proven track record of developing pipelines, with a high level of business development, confident to bring in new clients and doing Business Development internationally.
- Extensive experience with finding new distributors and buyers. Bonus points for finding new international distros
- Strong communication and networking skills.
- Strong analytical skills to use sales data, customer insights, and competitive analysis for decision-making.
- Expertise in using CRM tools to track customer relationships and sales pipelines effectively
- Good English skills required. You are confident to have conversations in English
- Bonus Points for international Sales/business development experience, including opening up new international markets through distributors
- Bonus Points for familiarity with the medical cannabis industry and regulations in Europe
- Bonus Points for marketing experience alongside sales and business development
Pay range and compensation package
- 35,000 - 50,000 Euros Base Salary (Some flexibility for superstars)
- Bonus based on Performance on top of base salary
