Insurance Ops & Growth Lead
Location: Remote-first (Portugal preferred EU timezone works)
Employment: Full-time
Compensation: Fixed + performance-based variable. Equity/phantom shares optional.
We're looking for an Insurance Ops & Growth Lead to take ownership of Indie's insurance brokerage operation and help shape it from the ground up, with real responsibility, high standards, and a strong bias toward building.
This is not a support role, nor a "keep the lights on" ops job.
Aligned with the founder, you'll lead our insurance operations with a clear mandate: turn a regulated insurance brokerage into a radically more productive, tech-enabled operation, and grow it as a standalone P&L.
We're intentionally lean and plan to stay that way. We value people who lead by doing, who are comfortable operating without a pre-built structure, and who see operations, distribution and systems as a competitive advantage, not a cost center.
At the start, you'll be a one-person army. Over time, you'll design the structure, build the team, and eventually grow into full general management responsibility. Titles are earned through results, not granted upfront.
Hard Skills
• Licensed to sell insurance in Portugal (or eligible to obtain the required ASF registration in the short term)
• Proven experience in insurance brokerage or insurance operations (minimum 3 years)
• Strong understanding of insurance products such as (but not limited to) Professional Liability, D&O, Health or Workers' Compensation
• Hands-on experience with policy lifecycles: quoting, issuance, endorsements, renewals
• Familiarity with ASF regulatory processes, compliance and reporting
• Comfortable working directly with insurers and underwriting teams
• Ability to think in systems: processes, flows, incentives, unit economics
• Able to envision transformation and translate operational and commercial needs into requirements for tech, automation or third-party platforms
• Exposure to AI tools, no/low-code platforms, and workflow automation (hands-on, not theoretical)

About Indie Seguros
Indie Seguros is building the Insurance OS for the flexible economy: a modular, API-first infrastructure that embeds insurance into digital platforms - marketplaces, gig apps, rental platforms, and more.
We work with companies like Bolt, OSCAR, Lyzer and MyCareforce, and co-create products with insurers such as Caravela, Hiscox, Berkley, Allianz, Generali and others. Our technology enables on-demand, event-based insurance (per task, per minute, per shift) and replaces workflows that were traditionally manual.
Alongside that, we operate a licensed insurance brokerage, fully regulated in Portugal and expanding into Spain. Through this brokerage, we work with traditional insurance products, but specialise in serving startups, scaleups and digital-first companies, as well as partnering with accelerators, incubators, VC funds and other innovation ecosystem players.
Our focus is not to sell insurance in a traditional way, but to rethink how brokerage works: using technology, automation and partnerships so each person can sell and manage significantly more clients than in a conventional setup.
We do insurance, but we think and build like a tech company.
