What will be your role

We are looking for a highly skilled Data Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer to join our team and lead the development of intelligent, data-driven solutions for a leading company in the digital payments and financial services sector. This role is critical for designing predictive models, automating analytical processes, and transforming complex data into strategic and operational insights.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement machine learning and deep learning models for forecasting, classification, and process automation.
• Apply algorithms such as regression, decision trees, and neural networks to solve real-world business problems.
• Perform ETL processes and build scalable data pipelines using tools such as SQL, Spark, Hadoop, Databricks, and SSIS.
• Work with structured and unstructured data, integrating data from various sources (SQL/NoSQL databases, APIs, web scraping).
• Use Python (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, etc.), R, and SQL for data analysis and model development.
• Create data visualizations and dashboards using Power BI, Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, and SSRS to support business decisions.
• Conduct statistical analysis, applying concepts of probability, inference, linear algebra, and calculus.
• Extract external data using web scraping tools such as requests, BeautifulSoup, and Scrapy.
• Communicate technical results clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Apply critical thinking to identify patterns, question anomalies, and propose creative, data-driven solutions.
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to investigating root causes and identifying actionable insights.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines through effective time management.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, contributing to shared goals and integrating diverse perspectives.

What should you bring to the team?

• At least 5 years of experience working in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics projects.
• Expertise in designing scalable, high-performance machine learning and AI solutions using tools like Python (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow) and R.
• Strong knowledge of Power BI and Python libraries for data visualization (Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly), and ability to communicate insights clearly.
• Experience in data engineering, including building ETL pipelines with SQL/NoSQL databases, Spark, Hadoop, Databricks, or SSIS.
• Proven ability to translate business needs into robust, data-driven solutions through exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and predictive modeling.
• Knowledge of web scraping and data acquisition, using tools such as requests, BeautifulSoup, and Scrapy, as well as integrating external APIs.
• Solid foundation in statistics and mathematics, including probability, inference, linear algebra, and calculus.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to challenge assumptions, identify root causes, and propose creative, analytical solutions.
• Experience leading or mentoring teams on best practices in machine learning, model performance optimization, and data quality assurance.
• Familiarity with Azure cloud services (e.g., Azure ML, Data Factory) for scalable data processing and model deployment is a plus.
• Comfortable working in Agile environments, with excellent organizational and communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Fluent in Portuguese and English (written and spoken).
• Availability to work in a hybrid model at clients' offices in Lisbon;
