Position Overview:

Hays is recruiting a Senior Legal Counsel to support one of its key clients across Southern Europe. This strategic role involves providing legal and commercial advice, managing legal risk, and leading the legal function across Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The successful candidate will also join the Southern Europe Management Board and contribute to the sustainable and profitable growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal support across permanent, temporary, and outsourcing business lines;
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts and transactions across multiple jurisdictions;
• Manage external legal counsel and ensure effective risk mitigation;
• Support high-value tenders and service agreements;
• Resolve contractual disputes and provide strategic legal advice;
• Deliver legal training and ensure compliance with relevant legislation;
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior management across the region;
• Lead and support the Southern Europe legal team.

Candidate Profile:

• Minimum 6 years of post-qualification experience in a business environment;
• Legal qualification (preferably Spanish);
• Fluency in English and at least one Southern European language (Spanish, Portuguese, or Italian);
• Strong knowledge of commercial and contract law, including data protection;
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and leadership skills;
• Willingness to travel across the region.
