The Opportunity

Are you a seasoned expert ready to lead the design of large-scale cloud data platforms?

eXalt-Fi Portugal is looking for a Senior Data Engineer / Tech Lead to drive a high-impact transformation program for one of Europe's leading market infrastructure operators. This is a strategic role where you will guide technical choices and build business-critical solutions in a people-first environment.

What You'll Do

• Tech Leadership: Act as a technical reference, advising on data strategy, architecture, and implementation approaches.
• ? Architect & Build: Design and develop scalable data pipelines and Lakehouse architectures (primarily Iceberg; Hudi/Delta are a plus).
• Modernize: Lead the migration and redesign of legacy systems (SQL Server/SSIS) into modern AWS-native cloud environments.
• ? Orchestrate: Build and automate ETL/ELT workflows using Airflow, Step Functions, and AWS native orchestration.
• Optimize: Implement advanced Lakehouse optimizations (Compaction, Z-Order) for high-performance data delivery.
• ? Secure & Automate: Ensure top-tier reliability and security using IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation) and CI/CD best practices.
• Mentor: Share knowledge, mentor internal teams, and foster technical excellence across the organization.

What You Bring

• Experience: 8+ years building complex data pipelines on public cloud (AWS preferred, Azure/GCP welcome).
• Tech Lead Profile: Proven experience leading technical projects or mentoring junior engineers.
• Architecture: Strong background in data solution architecture, design, and long-term support.
• Core Tech: Mastery of Python, SQL, and Spark ecosystems (Hadoop is a plus).
• Legacy Transformation: Practical experience with SQL Server and SSIS packages to drive the redesign phase.
• AWS Services: Deep expertise with Glue, Lambda, Crawlers, DynamoDB, and AWS Batch.
• Lakehouse Mastery: Expert understanding of Iceberg and storage optimization.
• DevOps & CI/CD: Proficiency in Docker, Linux, and IaC (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• Languages: Fluent English (mandatory). French is a strong advantage!
